Breaking Silos to Build Smarter Interfaces
CTE is a Taiwanese Tier 1 supplier leading the way in designing and delivering digital instrument clusters for a wide range of vehicle applications. The company serves as a core supplier and long-term strategic partner for 18 leading international vehicle brands, which in turn have high expectations: modern and responsive visuals, rapid customization, and overall reliability.
The business unit led by Lisa Cheng (Vice President) is responsible for designing and developing digital instrument clusters. Their process was initially hindered by a fragmented workflow, as designers and developers operated in silos: UI concepts were handed off as static files, which led to misinterpretations, manual rework, and long iteration cycles – ultimately impacting the team's response time.
UI design was delivered as static images, resulting in inefficient handover and communication. Any design change required manual implementation, causing long development cycles, recalls Ditter Hung.
The complexity didn’t end there. CTE’s products needed to run on various platforms, including NXP and Renesas boards—each with different performance profiles and development requirements. Maintaining separate codebases for each platform increased the burden on the engineering team, making testing and validation more time-consuming.
As the company scaled its operations and undertook additional projects with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), it became apparent that the current approach could not meet the demands of modern vehicle HMI development.
Qt supports both MCUs and high-performance SoCs, aligning with our multi-platform strategy.

A Smooth Solution That Scales
CTE began to evaluate alternatives that could improve their workflow and support their multi-platform strategy. Some open-source options were considered, but they fell short in crucial areas such as performance, stability, and design integration.
Qt supports both MCUs and high-performance SoCs, aligning with our multi-platform strategy. The integration of Qt Design Studio with Figma was a key differentiator, says Ditter Hung.
Qt offers a comprehensive solution: a robust C++ framework with a signal-slot architecture that is perfect for managing complex event flows, along with a design environment that connects UI/UX to engineering.
With Qt Design Studio and its Figma integration, CTE’s designers can now deliver interactive UI assets that are ready for production, eliminating the need to manually translate design specifications.
Qt Design Studio enabled our designer to work independently and deliver assets that were immediately usable by the development team. This drastically reduced the back-and-forth, improved accuracy, and reduced time-to-market, explains Ditter Hung.
The team also benefited from Qt’s commercial support and active developer community, which helped shorten the learning curve and accelerate adoption.
Within a short time, Qt became the foundation for all of CTE’s digital instrument cluster projects, enabling a consistent development experience across hardware platforms.
For companies like us with multi-platform needs and demanding OEM standards, Qt is the optimal choice.

Measurable Results and a Vision for the Future
The impact of adopting Qt was immediate and measurable. The streamlined workflow resulted in faster development cycles, enhanced collaboration, and higher-quality deliverables.
- The UI handoff process became twice as fast.
- OEM customization timelines were reduced by approximately 30%.
- Developer onboarding time was cut in half.
- Validation time dropped by at least 30%.
- UI-related bugs were reduced, and the overall stability was improved.
More consistent testing and deployment reduced validation time by at least 30%. And the streamlined workflow has greatly improved customer satisfaction, continues Ditter Hung.
In addition to operational efficiency, Qt also allowed CTE to create more visually striking and responsive HMIs. Real-time rendering of gauges, animations, and dynamic effects became standard, enabling CTE to meet the high expectations of global OEMs.
Qt is more than just a UI tool—it’s a complete and stable system architecture for long-term product development. For companies like us with multi-platform needs and demanding OEM standards, Qt is the optimal choice, concludes Ditter Hung.
CTE plans to expand Qt usage beyond digital clusters to other in-vehicle systems, such as HVAC controls and secondary displays. The company is also evaluating Qt Safe Renderer to meet ISO 26262 functional safety requirements and is building internal training programs to scale Qt expertise across its teams.
